about

this song was written around when i started recording eds. it didn't really fit and it took me a while to feel okay about the simple chord progression. i like the slant rhymes

lyrics

mornings//

i hate the way you can be happy in the morning
like you know you’re gonna have a decent day C# G# F# F#
i hate the way you smile in the mirror
as if your beauty hasn’t started to fade
i hate the reflection in your eyes when our faces align
and you say something about, being on time
while i can barely process these incandescent lights...

i hate the way you appreciate breakfast C# G# a#m F#
without this coffee today would be endless
i hate the way you tie your shoes even though you know they’ll come loose
i hate the way you get so happy like i used to
i hate the wires in my head that connect when i get out of bed
but it’s gotten to the point where i accept it
i hate knowing each day can never beat okay
i hate how easily i lose like the cool kid in cartoons

but when you asked me how it’s going i said fine
sometimes it feels more honest to lie
sometimes it feels better to pretend
i could live this way forever
but sometimes the truth leaks out
and i fucking start to drown
so i’m sorry if i seem despondent
i’ll always be less than promised
and i can’t help but feel carsick
when this whole year has been garbage
oh oooohhh
